DAY 57, SUNDAY, MARCH 10TH
Woke up and showered this morning before eating a quick breakfast with my host family! After breakfast I headed into the city to got to a Chocolate festival! We bought tickets last week and I forgot it was the day after getting back but I couldn’t resist the chocolate so I got up earlier to go!
After getting a sufficient number of free chocolate samples I went to the airport to meet my dearest friend Hannah who came to visit me over her spring break!!! I picked her up from the airport around 2 and then we headed into the city! She dropped her luggage near the main station in the city and we walked around the area my school buildings and I just showed her that area! Then we headed towards Nyhavn to see the canal and the classic colorful buildings! I hadn’t been there since orientation so it was nice to be back and walk around a bit more.
It was on and off raining and we were hungry so we went to find some lunch! Apparently Copenhagen is known for some great hamburgers so we tried to look for a spot Hannah had heard about but they only had outdoor seating so we went to a recommendation I got - Cocks and Cows - for a good burger and fries! It was delicious! After lunch we walked around a bit more eventually making our way to the Rundetaarn (the Round Tower). I went up once early in the semester but its fairly cheap and since the sky was clear and the sun was setting we decided to head up! We were lucky with some fairly clear skies and great views!
Once we finished getting our obligatory pictures we headed back down and back towards Norreport to grab Hannah’s luggage and head home for dinner! We had dinner with my host family- a traditional Danish pork roast, with potatoes and salad. After dinner and a little time relaxing we had some coffee and cake along with a few rounds of sequence! I’m so happy Hannah is here and I can show her Copenhagen!!
DAY 58, MONDAY, MARCH 11TH
Woke up and grabbed breakfast at the house with Hannah before we both headed into the city. Before my classes started for the day we did a canal tour around the city! It was a little chilly but there was no rain and the sky was clear so it was a pretty decent day to do it. It wasn’t the most fantastic tour I’ve done but it was nice to get a new perspective on the city and see some parts of the city that I haven’t seen before!
After we finished the tour we grabbed a classic danish hot dog from a hot dog stand! They’re a staple of Denmark and I haven’t tried them yet so it was perfect timing- the hot dog was delicious- with pickles, onions, remoulade, ketchup, etc.
After lunch I headed to my class while Hannah went to see the Little Mermaid statue and some other cool things nearby! We met up in between my classes to hang out and grab a warm drink and a snack at Paludan cafe. Then I headed to my next class while hannah walked around the Christiansborg castle grounds and walked along Strøget. After my class we headed home for dinner with my host family! After dinner, Amalie came home and we had a nice yet awful surprise of some licorice taste testing! One of the most popular candies in Denmark is a salty black licorice and they love to feed the Americans it because usually we hate it. And they are right. Me and hannah tried a few different kinds and while she liked a couple of them I didn't like any- but it was fun! In the end we were rewarded with a Kinder Surprise chocolate haha. After the taste test we played six person sequence together which was super fun (mostly because I finally won a few games).
