Reunions in Stockholm!

Updated: May 4, 2019

DAY 99, FRIDAY, APRIL 19TH

Another Travel Day! Woke up and checked out out of my hotel in Helsinki and headed to the airport! I had a couple extra hours before my flight so I found somewhere to sit and try and get some work done! Eventually got on my flight and had a smooth flight from Helsinki to Stockholm! Once I got to the airport in Stockholm I met up with Sarah (my William & Mary roommate) and we made our way to the hotel! Once we arrived at the hotel we grabbed dinner and planned for tomorrow

DAY 100, SATURDAY, APRIL 20TH

I'VE BEEN ABROAD FOR 100 DAYS :0 :0 WOW

Fantastic weather, yet again!!!!!!!!

We woke up and ate breakfast at the hotel before heading out to see the Royal Palace in the old town area. We paid and and went in and did a self-guided tour of the royal apartments, a treasury and a small museum. From there we walked down to where there's a cool cathedral near the water.

After walking through that for a while we walked to a food hall and got lunch there and ate it outside. Then we walked to another island and went to the Vasa museum. It is a museum about an old Swedish ship that was built in 1628, with hundreds of wooden sculptures and other embellishments, and then was preserved underwater for 333 years after the ship sunk on its maiden voyage. The ship was rediscovered in 1961 and salvaged. The ship in the museum now is 95% original! It is a huge boat and the museum had lots of great exhibits to learn about the boat itself, the time period it was built, and the recovery of it.

After that museum we sat outside and got a drink before heading to get greek food for dinner and calling it a night.

DAY 101, SUNDAY, APRIL 21ST

Happy Easter!

Today we woke up and started with breakfast at the hotel again! After, we headed out and our first stop was Skansen! It is a outdoor museum/park with lots of old Swedish buildings as well as a zoo area. It was awesome. Tons of diverse buildings from all over Sweden and from different decades/centuries, along with old farmsteads.

We also saw the coolest nordic animals, saw a moose and saw real life reindeer!! SO COOL.

We ate some lunch in the park- Elk!!! I liked it a little better than the reindeer but still think I will stick with chicken.

After spending a few hours there we left and headed to the old town area /Gamla Stan and wandered around- definitely a little more touristy but beautiful nonetheless. Then we had to take a break to do traditional Swedish Fika! Fika is a Swedish tradition where you take a break and just relax, get coffee, a cake/pastry and chat with friends. I am a huge fan of this tradition :)

We eventually headed to Södermalm area which is supposed to be a bit more hip, local area. walked around there and also got some good views of Gamla Stan. Sarah went to mass, while I wandered around a little more.

After we met up and grabbed dinner before heading back to the hotel to get packed and ready to leave tomorrow. I absolutely LOVED Stockholm- definitely one of my favorite places I've visited if not my favorite. The weather was absolutely wonderful & it was so nice to reunite and spend time with Sarah!
